Under the general direction of the Street Superintendent, with some direction by the Senior Maintenance Technician, the Maintenance Technician performs a variety of tasks in the general construction, repairs, and maintenance of City streets, sidewalks, alleys, curbs, storm drains, etc. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Street Maintenance Assist in the general construction, repairs, and maintenance of City streets, sidewalks, alleys, curbs, storm drains, pipes, gutters, and miscellaneous repairs as required. Set, form, pour and finish concrete to repair curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. Perform street repairs and patching; lays asphalt, fills potholes. Monitor equipment operator to prevent damage to other utility lines while digging. Answer emergency calls from the public and other agencies taking appropriate action such as placing traffic barricades, signage, and cones as directed. May be required to remove debris, fallen trees and limbs; replace street signs during or after hazardous weather or other emergencies. Organize tools, equipment, and supplies necessary to complete assigned tasks. Signs/Street Marking May be required to install signs as needed. Set up traffic safety devices such as cones, signs, and barricades as necessary. Layout, fabricate and install regulatory warning and constructions signs; straighten and reset street signs and parking meter poles. Paint or stencil traffic directional markings including, but not limited to, crosswalks, safety loading zones, bus stops, parking and center lines, and railroad and school crossings. Paint and stripe barricades and guard rails; cut and prepare stencils. Safety/Equipment Maintenance Maintain safety regulations including wearing appropriate clothing, erecting proper barricades and signage. Inspect, clean, and maintain equipment and tools used to ensure they are in safe operating order. Perform routine inspections of assigned areas to detect any necessary repairs or hazardous conditions. Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed. Other Duties May be required to assist in the setup, teardown, and cleanup for special events and meetings. May occasionally be required to work on-call, evenings or weekends. Assist in other departmental operations when needed. Regular and consistent attendance for the assigned work hours is essential. Perform other related duties as assigned.
