About The Position

The Housekeeping Department within Facilities and Business Operations is seeking to hire a Maintenance Technician I, High Performance Work Team. This role provides essential support for the operational maintenance and sanitation of campus buildings to provide a safe, functional, clean, efficient, and attractive living and learning environment. You will be responsible for troubleshooting issues and providing service for, and responding to customer and staff requests. The ideal candidate has basic maintenance repair skills and can perform basic custodial tasks.

Requirements

  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program for multiple trades; or a high school diploma and 2 years of relevant experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience pursuant to Fla. Stat. 112.219(6).
  • Position requires a valid Class E driver's license.
  • The position may involve driving to various locations on and off campus to conduct University business.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of experience in facility maintenance, building services, or a related field.
  • Technical or vocational training in maintenance, building systems, or a skilled trade.
  • Working knowledge of basic mechanical, plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry tasks.
  • Experience with custodial equipment repair and preventive maintenance programs.
  • Familiarity with work order systems (IWMS) and ability to accurately document completed tasks.
  • Ability to safely operate power tools, hand tools, and custodial/maintenance equipment.
  • Able to communicate in conversational English to work effectively with customers and team members, operate electronic equipment (iPad for Integrated Work Management Systems PM checkpoints), comprehend standard safety procedures, and utilize telecommunication devices.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve minor facility and equipment issues.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills; ability to collaborate with staff, supervisors, and contractors.
  • Commitment to safety practices, including OSHA and university guidelines.
  • Previous experience in a higher education or institutional setting is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on housekeeping equipment, building systems, and facilities. Tasks may involve light mechanical, plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry work, as well as replacing bulbs, HVAC filters, ceiling tiles, and unclogging plumbing fixtures.
  • Support daily operations by delivering materials, equipment, and supplies to housekeeping zones, assisting other departments or contractors, and addressing non-critical equipment issues.
  • Complete project-based work such as power washing, exterior window cleaning, and other maintenance projects; assist with basic custodial tasks (vacuuming, window cleaning, trash removal).
  • Accurately document all work orders, noting labor hours, materials used, and any conditions requiring further attention; create and update work orders as needed.
  • Monitor and report maintenance, health, and sanitation deficiencies; support inventory control and security; follow all safety regulations and participate in required training.
  • Collaborate with other campus departments to maintain safe, functional, and well-kept facilities.
