About The Position

The Maintenance Technician II at MICA is responsible for performing assigned duties associated with various trades such as carpentry, electrical, mechanical, HVAC/R, painting, and plumbing to assist with the general maintenance, upkeep, and repair of campus buildings, dormitories, and grounds. The position requires demonstrated knowledge and skill in at least one of the mentioned trades and the ability to learn others. The technician serves as a resource in building trades for the Facilities Management Department, aiming to provide quality maintenance and repair services in support of the college's mission.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Stable work or education history with an excellent attendance record.
  • 1-3 years of practical work experience or work towards certification in one of the building trades.
  • Basic knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety requirements.
  • Willingness to learn through job experience and formal training.
  • Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, and equipment associated with maintenance trades.

Nice To Haves

  • Over 1 year of practical work experience in the building trades.
  • Certification in one of the building trades.
  • Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC/R, and carpentry trades.
  • Experience working in a Facilities Management Department.

Responsibilities

  • Execute assigned repair/work orders daily, ensuring quality work.
  • Help mentor and train Maintenance Technicians I.
  • Assist with scheduled preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Act as the Facilities Management 'construction representative' for construction/repair projects.
  • Monitor the work and conduct quality control for hired maintenance/repair contractors.
  • Lift, carry, push or pull tools, equipment, and materials.
  • Reach, stoop, kneel, climb, and crouch to access spaces.
  • Assist with the setup and preparation for events, classes, and visitors.
  • Establish and maintain good working relationships with MICA faculty, staff, and community.
  • Oversee and check the work of Maintenance Technician I when needed.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for after-hours emergencies.
  • Perform unsupervised and supervised building interior and exterior maintenance/repairs.
  • Help maintain Facilities vehicles and keep the maintenance shop organized.
  • Assist with enforcing environmental health and safety rules and regulations.
  • Work to reduce energy usage and promote sustainability.
