About the position

As a Maintenance Technician, you will use your skills to support Manufacturing or Distribution Operations in repairing and maintaining material handling equipment, pneumatic systems, temperature control systems, sealers, compressors, and other devices throughout the building. Building maintenance common to the trades may be included periodically. You will have the opportunity to install, maintain and repair conveyors, automated packaging, and distribution equipment. Supports a preventive maintenance routine.

Responsibilities

  • Perform an increasingly wider range of duties of a more complex nature over time.
  • Work in multiple maintenance trades such as hydraulics, plumbing, refrigeration, electrical, sheet metal fabrication, and welding.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems related to all Material Handling Equipment (MHE).
  • Set up and operate all tools and equipment necessary to perform work assigned.
  • Observe mechanical devices in operation and troubleshoot equipment to locate causes of trouble.
  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts.
  • Lubricate and change out wheels on carts, trolleys, bins, and other objects.
  • Repair or replace defective parts and mechanical equipment.
  • Install special functional and structural parts in devices.
  • Complete routine preventive maintenance duties with accurate documentation.
  • Start devices to test their performance and run packaging and product for testing purposes.
  • Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections.
  • Inspect used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements.
  • Troubleshoot issues and repair failures; remove, replace, assemble, and install parts and components.
  • Check and refill lubricant reservoirs and apply grease to lubricant points.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments.
  • Interpret blueprints, sketches, layouts, drawings, and specifications.
  • Promote a safe working environment by following all safety procedures.
  • Communicate with the Maintenance and Operations teams regarding equipment down for repair.
  • Maintain transport trailer condition by reviewing shop orders and listening to operator complaints.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent education.
  • 1 – 2 years experience as a Maintenance Technician in a manufacturing plant or similar environment.
  • Typically requires completion of a formal apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience.
  • A degree or certificates in other related training or education is preferred.
  • Experience working in a chilled food factory or related environment is preferred.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of Safe work practices common to the trades.
  • Bilingual (Spanish / English) helpful.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of applying common mechanical processes, conveyer systems, procedures, and repairs commonly to food manufacturing equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge of AC/DC powered forklifts and pallet jacks.
  • Basic knowledge of all aspects of facility maintenance with the ability to perform minor repairs for multiple trades with competency and proficiency.
  • Ability to work in a cold/ damp environment for extended periods.
  • Must be able to source parts for all necessary repairs.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and employee relation skills.
  • Ability to read, comprehend and speak professionally with team members.
  • Must have basic mathematical skills.
