About The Position

Green Lake Conference Center is seeking a dedicated Maintenance and Grounds Team Member to help maintain the natural beauty of our campus with a focus on excellence, stewardship, and hospitality. This hands-on role supports the appearance and functionality of outdoor spaces, especially those visible to guests, by performing lawn care, landscaping, and seasonal maintenance. This role will also assist in overseeing volunteers, work groups, or additional staff as assigned.

Requirements

  • Alignment with GLCC’s mission and values
  • Must be at least age 18 and possess a valid driver’s license
  • Minimum of a high school diploma, GED, or HSED.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform physical labor, bending, twisting, standing or sitting for extended periods.
  • Previous experience in landscaping, machine equipment operation, and grounds keeping practices is preferred, but a strong willingness to learn and apply best practices in these areas is essential.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Positive attitude and ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional experience in mechanical repairs, carpentry, welding, electrical, or plumbing is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lawn & Landscape Care: Maintain well-groomed and attractive grounds by mowing with riding and walk-behind mowers, edging lawns, and trimming weeds to ensure a clean, welcoming appearance for guests and staff.
  • Seasonal Grounds Work: Support seasonal upkeep by collecting and removing leaves in the fall and performing snow removal with shovels and snow blowers during the winter months to ensure safe and accessible grounds.
  • Tree & Brush Management: Trim and remove trees, branches, and brush to promote safety, maintain clear pathways, and enhance the natural beauty of the property. Split and stack firewood for guest and operational use.
  • Equipment Care: Perform routine maintenance on grounds equipment, including cleaning, inspecting, conducting oil changes, and making minor repairs to ensure all tools and machinery are in good working order. Regularly check for wear and tear, and report any significant issues that may require further attention, ensuring optimal performance and minimizing downtime.
  • Equipment Maintenance Reporting: Proactively identify and report any maintenance needs or issues with equipment to ensure optimal performance, minimize downtime, and extend the life of the machinery.
  • Waste Management: Collect, sort, and dispose of recycling and refuse from designated areas, ensuring proper waste separation and maintaining cleanliness throughout the property.
  • Team Collaboration & Communication: Foster clear and consistent communication with team members, work groups, and volunteers to effectively complete tasks and projects, ensuring safety and timely completion.
  • Grounds Upkeep: Maintain cleanliness, safety, and aesthetic appeal of all outdoor guest areas, including gardens, walkways, parking lots, and recreational spaces. Regularly inspect these areas for hazards, promptly address any issues, and ensure a welcoming and well-maintained environment for guests and staff.
  • Facility Upkeep: Ensure the safety and overall presentation of all guest areas, including lobbies, meeting spaces, restrooms, and common areas. Regularly inspect these areas for potential hazards, address any safety concerns promptly, and maintain a welcoming and well-maintained environment for both guests and staff.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety and security protocols to ensure a safe environment for guests and staff. Adhere to procedures for handling and operating equipment and responding to emergencies or unusual situations during overnight hours.
  • Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned to support the overall operations of the Maintenance and Grounds Services department.
