About The Position

The Maintenance, Systems & Buildings Technician is responsible for performing various tasks both inside and outside of the facility, utilizing mechanical, industrial, construction, and electrical expertise. This role also maintains and enhances existing building systems and support equipment, including system upgrades and equipment commissioning or decommissioning. Key responsibilities include working with mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and automated equipment essential to DigiKey's operations. The Technician collaborates daily with other Technicians, Engineers, and third-party contractors, and reports to the Senior Maintenance Technician, Maintenance Supervisor, or Maintenance Manager. This demanding position requires a broad knowledge of diverse equipment and systems. This is considered an essential onsite role, which requires regular onsite attendance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certifications preferred.
  • 2+Years of experience with maintenance, construction, mechanical, or other relevant experience
  • Ability to operate all equipment that is owned or leased by DigiKey.
  • Ability to operate hand and power tools to assemble and dissemble equipment.
  • Ability to interpret and work with blue prints.
  • Hands on, team-oriented commitment to continuous improvement
  • Exceptional people skills, with ability to gain and maintain trust and confidence with individuals within and outside DigiKey.
  • Proficiency in using computer and diagnostic programs, hand tools, and power
  • Strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Must be able to acquire certification for Forklift, PIV and all Powered equipment within 6 months of start in role
  • Being mindful of where to cut cost with time management or materials.
  • Annual training to make sure team understands and is able to conduct job functions efficiently and safely
  • Willing to learn and adapt to change of role requirements or business needs.
  • Experience with equipment maintenance, and modification design
  • Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to unknown situations that may arise day to day.

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance on building systems and equipment to meet high-quality standards.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot Dematic automation and support equipment (e.g., auto bagging machines, banding machines, forklifts, robots) and collaborate with vendors for repairs.
  • Provide technical support for PDCe and PDC equipment, including remote troubleshooting and PLC/control systems.
  • Conduct daily building and grounds maintenance (lawn care, snow removal, parking lot upkeep) and assist with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and construction issues.
  • Support general facilities responsibilities, including light custodial tasks as needed.
  • Maintain and test fire systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards and coordinating with contractors as necessary.
  • Ensure proper care of tools and equipment; perform mechanical strip-down, reassembly, wiring, calibration, and system testing.
  • Follow health and safety protocols, execute quality and safety procedures, and carry out risk assessments.
  • Document department procedures and collaborate on SOPs, work instructions, and remodeling projects.
  • Train staff on new or upgraded tools and equipment.
  • Manage work orders through electronic systems and communicate progress effectively across shifts.
  • Stay current on equipment knowledge; attend and travel for training as required.
  • Support audits as a subject matter expert and ensure compliance with insurance requirements.
  • Operate generators, log emissions data for EPA reporting, and assist with hazardous waste handling.
  • Perform building and security checks after hours as needed; occasional overtime, weekend work, and travel may be required.
  • Maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external contractors to deliver first-class service.
