About The Position

The Maintenance Supervisor manages staff during scheduled shifts and completes daily maintenance tasks. This role involves using current technology like radio/phone for monitoring and communication with staff, providing support to the Maintenance Management Department, and serving as the main point of contact for maintenance staff. The supervisor is expected to advocate goodwill for the City of Virginia Beach by providing excellent customer service to residents and guests, demonstrating a commitment to quality service through knowledge of maintenance ordinances, procedures, and policies. Maintaining a professional, empathetic, and composed demeanor when interacting with guests and residents is crucial for creating a positive image of the City of Virginia Beach.

Requirements

  • Three years’ experience in custodial/maintenance work
  • One year of supervision in a custodial/maintenance environment
  • A valid driver’s license is required
  • Must be able to troubleshoot minor plumbing, electrical, and other maintenance issues
  • Must be knowledgeable of basic maintenance procedures as related to plumbing, electrical, and other maintenance issues
  • Must know how to safely use hand and power tools in performance of tasks
  • Know how to read blueprints, instruction manuals, and understands Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS)
  • Operates within OSHA guidelines
