About The Position

The position oversees the functionality, appearance, and safety of city streets and right of ways. Additional areas of oversight include storm sewer repairs, litter control, and traffic signs and signals. The role involves directing the work of street division employees and leading maintenance and construction projects. The position receives direct supervision from the Public Works Director or their designee. Responsibilities include inspecting and overseeing construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, curb/gutter, sidewalks, storm drainage systems, and traffic control devices to ensure high quality work is performed efficiently. The role also involves reviewing documentation of daily work productivity records, preparing requests for proposals for contract services, and responding to service requests from residents and businesses. The position requires coordination of equipment purchasing and maintenance, evaluation of training needs for field personnel, and ensuring adherence to safety standards.

Requirements

  • Minimum education: High School Degree, or GED equivalent.
  • Desired education: Associates Degree or Technical College training in a related field.
  • Related work experience of 5 to 7 years, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the functionality, appearance, and safety of city streets and right of ways.
  • Directs the work of street division employees.
  • Leads maintenance and construction projects.
  • Inspects and oversees construction, maintenance, and repair of streets, curb/gutter, sidewalks, storm drainage systems, and traffic control devices.
  • Reviews documentation of daily work productivity records of streets personnel and contractors.
  • Prepares requests for proposals (RFPs) for contract services and oversees contract work.
  • Reports on call for weather-related and other emergencies and coordinates team response.
  • Responds to requests for service from residents, businesses, or contractors.
  • Coordinates the purchasing of equipment and supplies under direction from the Field Crew Foreman and DPW Director.
  • Coordinates street equipment maintenance and repair under direction from the Field Crew Foreman and DPW Director.
  • Evaluates and recommends needed training for field personnel.
  • Ensures that all field personnel wear proper safety clothing and protective gear.
  • May occasionally perform work requiring the use of heavy equipment.
  • Performs other duties as requested or as needed.
