About The Position

This position is located in a very remote and rugged portion of the Chihuahuan Desert with extreme heat in the summer. Amenities are limited and cell signals are not always reliable. It is highly recommended that applicants review, research, and visit the area before applying The Big Bend region is also a gorgeous part of Texas with some of the best outdoor recreational opportunities in the entire state. The area also features very mild to warm winters and is one of the most bio-diverse regions in Texas. Under the direction of the Park Superintendent, this position performs advanced (senior-level) maintenance and construction supervisory work. Responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, repair, and administrative tasks associated with all grounds, facilities, and equipment within Big Bend Ranch State Park. Serves as the Backup Utility Plant Operator and performs duties related to maintaining systems. Provides team leadership and technical guidance to employees and volunteer staff. Purchases supplies and materials; prepares required reports; assists in enforcement of park rules and regulations; provides visitor services including reservation, registration, issuing permits, licenses and collecting fees. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures. NOTE: The selected candidate may be required to live on-site with a monthly deduction of between $110.04 and $240.42 from their monthly paycheck.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or GED.
  • Four years facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience;
  • Three years experience as a supervisor or team leader, which may include oversight of paid staff, volunteers, or alternative workforce.
  • NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently.
  • Must possess a valid class "A" Texas Commercial driver's license OR must possess or be able to obtain, within 30 days of employment, a valid class "C" Texas driver's license and convert to a class "A" Commercial driver's license within 6 months of employment;
  • NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required licenses and compliance with State and Federal regulations including the Department of Transportation (DOT) required drug and alcohol testing.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain, within one year of employment, a Class "D" Surface Water Treatment license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
  • NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license and compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's (TCEQ) Criminal Conviction Guidelines.
