The main purpose of this position will be to This position is responsible for the daily uninterrupted operation of heating, air conditioning, lighting, sanitary and all other institutional equipment and systems, as well as new construction, installations, alterations, renovations, preventive maintenance, repairs, and grounds maintenance/snow removal, to maintain the facilities for the Department of Juvenile Services

Requirements

  • Eighth grade.
  • Six years experience in building maintenance or building construction trades including five years of responsibility assigning, reviewing and approving the work of others and disciplining, evaluating the performance of, and recommending the hiring, firing and promoting of others.
  • Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a non-commissioned officer in utilities classifications or mechanical maintenance specialty codes in the utility systems repair field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
  • Five (5) or more years of relevant trade experience with strong technical knowledge of HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, as well as door and lock maintenance and repair.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and experience with preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ability to manage budgets and coordinate with vendors and contractors.
  • Working knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, assesses, implements, and participates in the work of various skilled trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting, and mechanical services. Oversees the work of both State personnel and contracted vendors to ensure facilities are properly maintained and comply with applicable health, safety, and building codes.
  • Maintains accurate and detailed records of equipment, vehicles, maintenance activities, inspections, and work performed at assigned facilities on a daily basis.
  • Orders and manages materials and supplies necessary for the repair, replacement, and maintenance of facility systems, including plumbing fixtures such as toilets, sinks, faucets, pumps, valves, and related plant operations equipment.
