The Maintenance Supervisor 1 (Motor Equipment) position at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is a full-time role that involves both supervisory and hands-on responsibilities in the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of various types of motor equipment. This includes gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles, construction and heavy equipment, as well as electric, hybrid, and alternative fuel vehicles. In this role, the supervisor will be responsible for observing and inspecting work in progress, ensuring that materials and equipment are utilized properly, and that procurement of supplies adheres to state contract rates and guidelines. The supervisor will also schedule all service and repairs, conduct New York State certified inspections, and maintain comprehensive vehicle maintenance records. Additionally, the supervisor will manage vehicle pool operations, including mileage reporting and fuel card administration. The position may require the supervisor to perform maintenance and repairs in the field, necessitating the ability to work in remote areas and adverse weather conditions. The supervisor must also be prepared for emergency response situations, which may include after-hours and weekend work. Physical demands include the ability to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds, and the use of personal protective equipment, including respirators, is mandatory.
