About The Position

Unitec is part of American Elevator Group (AEG), North America's largest independent elevator service company. AEG consists of well-established elevator service companies operating across the United States. Backed by Arcline Investment Management, AEG has a significant footprint in the elevator industry and is rapidly growing. Unitec seeks an experienced Maintenance Superintendent for its Long Island City location. The Maintenance Superintendent is a key leadership position overseeing the elevator maintenance department’s daily operations, including Mechanics, Helpers and Foremen. As the Maintenance Superintendent, you will ensure the safe and reliable operation of elevators and other lifting equipment. You will oversee the equipment’s installation, maintenance, and repair, as well as troubleshooting and resolving any mechanical issues.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid NYS & NYC Mechanics License.
  • Completion of an apprenticeship program or technical school training in elevator repair.
  • A minimum of 10 years of technical experience, specifically on elevator troubleshooting and maintenance procedures.
  • Considerable initiative and a high degree of ingenuity are required.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of safety regulations and building codes.
  • Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Supervision: The superintendent directs a team of maintenance technicians and support staff and is responsible for training, scheduling, and evaluating staff to meet high performance and safety standards.
  • Maintenance Oversight: Plan and execute routine maintenance, inspections, and emergency repairs of elevator systems to ensure operational efficiency and compliance with safety regulations.
  • Operational Management: As a Maintenance Superintendent, you will be a key player in strategic planning. You will work closely with other department leaders to align maintenance activities with overall business objectives. This includes managing the budget, procuring necessary parts and tools, and implementing new systems or technologies to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensuring all activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations. This includes maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
  • Communication: As a Maintenance Superintendent, you will be the primary contact point for various stakeholders, including building managers, vendors, and regulatory bodies. Your role will involve effectively communicating elevator maintenance and safety issues, demonstrating your ability to manage relationships and communicate complex information.
