The Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for supervising workers engaged in various maintenance tasks, including major painting projects, structural repairs to masonry, woodwork, and furnishings of buildings, as well as maintaining and repairing building utility systems such as electrical wiring and controls, heating, and ventilating systems. This role also involves overseeing the installation, servicing, and repair of mechanical equipment, and ensuring that plant equipment, buildings, and facilities are properly maintained and serviced. The superintendent utilizes a working knowledge of electrical systems, plumbing, welding, shop machinery, and other technical skills to maintain plant equipment at optimal levels. Responsibilities include preparing work schedules, making assignments to subordinates, interpreting and enforcing company policies, and analyzing and resolving work problems. The role may also involve working on construction projects for new buildings and facilities, as well as alterations to existing structures. Additionally, the superintendent is responsible for maintaining production equipment to meet organizational standards and ensuring minimal equipment downtime, while also establishing preventive maintenance programs and administering training programs for staff.
