About The Position

The custodian is responsible for keeping branches and grounds functionally and aesthetically pleasing. This position ensures the branches are tidy, clean and well-maintained. Requirements

High School Diploma, GED, or suitable equivalent
Minimum one year of related experience in custodial work
Ability to work with minimal supervision
Proficient with handling basic maintenance repairs
Able to work a flexible work schedule including but not limited to afterhours cleaning of the facility
Knowledge and ability to work with chemicals and equipment in the prescribed manner, including ability to read labels, SDS information, and instructions
Prior knowledge or understanding of cleaning agents, appropriate commercial and/or industrial cleaning techniques
Possesses mature judgment and sound decision-making
Knowledge of safety issues related to facility site
Ability to communicate effectively with members, peers, volunteers and supervisor

Nice To Haves

Prior knowledge of methods of maintenance for carpet and hard surface floors and commercial chemical application is preferred

Responsibilities

Responsible for maintaining a high standard of cleanliness in assigned areas including sweep, mop, dust, vacuum, clean windows, refrigerator, bathrooms, shower, empty trash, locker rooms, and recycling
Cleans and maintains floors, walls, windows, tiled areas, and other surfaces, including striping polish and waxing floors, and providing carpet care
Cleans, descales and sanitizes sinks, toilets, showers, restrooms, and other assigned areas of building
Refills all product dispensers such as soap, paper towels, toilet tissue etc
Replaces light bulbs
Empties waste containers and replaces soiled container liners
Dusts furniture in office areas and meeting spaces, walls and ceilings
Rearranges furniture as required
Assist with snow removal as needed
Participates in setups and takedowns and moves furniture and equipment as needed
Assist or relieve personnel in other areas in emergency, staff shortage, or job vacancy
Complete assigned responsibilities during facility shutdowns
Must understand and perform skills established in the YUSA Maintenance Standards Manual
Operates all equipment properly and promptly reports any problems to supervisor
Reports any damage to supervisor
Attends staff meetings and trainings as required
Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary
Incorporates the mission, philosophy and 4 core values of the YMCA in all communication with participants and co-workers
Perform routine maintenance as assigned, assist with maintenance jobs requiring more than one person
Respond to member and staff service needs
