About The Position

The Dracut Public Schools Facilities Department is seeking a Maintenance Staff member to join our team. Experience and/or licensure as an HVAC Technician and/or Plumber is preferred. Below are descriptions for both plumber and general maintenance. All maintenance staff members work together to support all buildings and grounds requirements throughout the district. PLUMBER 1.Current Master or Journeyman Plumbers License issued by the Massachusetts Board of Registration. 2.Minimum of five years' experience in the operation, maintenance and repair of all plumbing systems/equipment. 3.Ability to perform skilled plumbing and gas fitting work in maintenance, repair, alteration or construction expected in the trade. 4.Fully knowledgeable of plumbing and gas standards, techniques and applicable codes and able to satisfactorily apply the same. 5.Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including frequent strenuous physical effort, frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and squatting. 6.Have good interpersonal skills and be able to work easily with others. 7.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Supervisor of Buildings & Grounds may find appropriate and acceptable. 8.Any present member of the Maintenance Repair Staff who holds a current master or journeyman plumbers license from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts must maintain such license in the best interest of the Dracut Public Schools. Any new hire who holds such a master or journeyman plumbers license must maintain and utilize such a license in the best interest of the Dracut Public Schools. This includes application for permits, scheduling of inspections, and all rights and privileges extended by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to such license holders. Responsibilities: 1.Responsible for plumbing repair work/new work performed within the Dracut Public School District. 2.Responsible for the application for plumbing permits when required and communicates with inspector(s) for proper inspection, whether it be new work or maintenance repair of present systems. 3.From written or verbal instructions, diagnoses, tests, repairs and installs plumbing and gas systems, traps, sinks, water closets, urinals, water systems, valves (mixing, relief), pumps (sump, ejector, circulating), laboratory type plumbing, dishwashers and other kitchen equipment, hot water heaters and boilers, piping, sanitary and drain systems and all other types of plumbing and gas fitting components owned or operated by the Dracut Public Schools. 4.Oversees maintenance of outdoor sprinklers, waste disposal systems, radiators, and similar plumbing related installations. 5.Reviews technical literature to keep abreast of new developments, codes and techniques in the field. 6.Works with the Supervisor of Facilities and/or his/her designee to assist in the development of cost estimates for all types of work. 7.Works with the Supervisor of Facilities and/or his/her designee to assist in the ordering of plumbing supplies, equipment and material that may be required. 8.Reads and interprets plans, sketches and blueprints. 9.Maintains a stock of supplies and materials of standardized items. 10.Performs regular preventive maintenance to assure maximum efficiency of all plumbing, gas and heating systems. 11.Keeps abreast of all safety and building codes. Maintains all required licenses. 12.Maintains a clean and orderly work area. Thoroughly cleans area after performance of all jobs. Performs all patching and repair that may be required. 13.Performs other duties related or otherwise that maybe required or requested by the Supervisor of Facilities for the overall general benefit of the school system General Maintenance: A Maintenance repair Staff member shall be expected to work with a reasonable high degree of skill and efficiency in all maintenance repair and preventive maintenance related to duties normally associated with the operation and upkeep of a modem school department. Typical Tasks: 1.Performs maintenance on heating equipment, portable or stationary air conditioning units, electrical or electronic systems and equipment, and/or water and wastewater systems. 2.Performs journey-level assignments on a paint, carpentry, roofing sheet metal, flooring, masonry, glazing, or other mechanical, structural, or grounds maintenance crew. 3.Performs mechanical tasks in an automotive maintenance shop 4.Ensures that appropriate supplies, equipment and tools are available at work site to complete assignment, ensures work is completed completely, in a timely manner, and in compliance with departmental performance standards and applicable building codes. 5.May be required to complete logs, work orders, tool and requisitions, etc. 6.Supervises helper and Maintenance Repair Men if assigned to crew. Drives district vehicle or will be driven to and from work site. 7.Performs routine servicing and loads and unloads tools and equipment. 8.Any present member of the Maintenance Repair Staff who holds a current license/certificate from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (Board of Building Regulations or any other agency) in the construction trades must utilize such license in the best interest of the Dracut Public Schools. Any new hire who holds such a license/certificate must maintain and utilize such a license/certificate in the best interest of the Dracut Public Schools. This includes the application for permits, scheduling of inspections, and all rights and privileges extended by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to such license holders. Examples of licenses are as follows, excluding Electrical and Plumbing/Pipefitting licenses, but not limited to: Construction Supervisor. 9.All Maintenance Repair Staff, hired after January 1, 2007 who are holders of any of the above-mentioned licenses must maintain such licenses current and in good standing with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a requirement of employment. 10.All work assignments are under the direction of the Superintendent of School/Supervisor of Facilities and/or his/her designee.
