About The Position

Join Silgan Closures, America’s largest metal food packaging producer, as a Maintenance Specialist in Evansville, IN. We’re looking for skilled maintenance specialists to install, maintain, repair, and remove production equipment, conveyor systems, ovens, and air compressors, and to maintain the facility building and grounds.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to regularly lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted
  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and twist/bend for extended periods
  • Must be able to climb ladders, be lifted in scissor lift, and work at heights

Responsibilities

  • Work from blueprint, sketch, sample parts or verbal instructions.
  • Set up and operate power wood saw, drill press, grinding wheel, etc.
  • Using measuring instruments such as: scale, tape, etc.; use hand tools such as hammer, pliers, wrench, etc.
  • Move, install and lubricate all types of machinery and equipment, repair belts, repair air and gas lines; replace damaged parts.
  • Service, maintain and repair hydraulic systems
  • Fabricate equipment and attachments, such as: chutes, air or magnetic, (and belt conveyors which do not require precision layout) using acetylene, Heliarc spot and/or ARC Welding as required.
  • Install, repair or replace piping installations for oil, gas, water, steam and heating lines, sprinkler and plumbing systems; cut and thread pipe
  • May perform carpentry work, painting, welding; repair floors, stacks, blowers, etc.; glaze.
  • Construct simple sheet metal units, layout and perform variety of operations using power shear, bending, forming, assemble sheet metal units.
  • Diagnose production failure of equipment and attachments and air compressors and report findings to Supervisor and make necessary repairs.
  • Assist electrician in handling electric motors and any other electrical equipment that requires rigging or special equipment (i.e., fork truck, block and tackle, etc.)
  • Ensure that all equipment safeguards are in place and operate.
  • May instruct and/or assist other personnel as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Use scissor lifts, manlifts, ladders, etc., and work in heights.
  • Repair and maintain lift trucks in plant short of major repair and overhaul.
  • Fire, operate, test and repair boiler and related equipment.
  • Check fire extinguishers, sprinkle system and propane system.
  • Handle hazardous waste according to proper procedures as outlined in the Hazardous Waste Management Bulletins including identification, collection, segregation, handling and storage of waste as needed
  • Keep assigned work area neat and clean
  • Perform other related duties as directed by Supervisor
  • Relieve as required
