About The Position

Under the direction of the Lead Ranger (Maintenance Supervisor), this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for the daily operation duties include but are not limited to, preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) and repairs to facilities, buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds at Balmorhea State Park. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, and power tools. Serves as the Site Safety Officer (SSO) for Balmorhea State Park. Provides visitor service assistance by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information and registers visitors using an automated registration system. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations. Performs resource management tasks and interprets the park's natural and cultural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or GED.
  • Three years' experience in facility, equipment or grounds maintenance.
  • Must possess a valid State driver's license.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Knowledge of general custodial duties.
  • Knowledge of accounting/accountability of revenue collection.
  • Knowledge of building and facility repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Skill in using MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in the use of various hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, vehicles generators and other mechanical equipment.
  • Skill in providing quality customer service in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Skill in establishing and maintain effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.
  • Skill in making independent, sound and timely decisions.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to accurately handle cash and account for revenue collected.
  • Ability to perform manual labor including, lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a related field -OR- Graduation from an accredited Technical school with degree in a related field.
  • Experience working with the public.
  • Experience in customer service and public relations.
  • Experience in construction, repair, and/or maintenance-related field.
  • Experience in vehicle, small engine, and heavy equipment repair.
