About The Position

Under the direction of the Lead Ranger, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work including daily operations and the maintenance program at Cedar Hill State Park. Performs all phases of maintenance and repairs to facilities, buildings, vehicles, equipment, and the grounds. Operates all types of equipment, including mowers, trimmers, trucks, and other gas operated equipment. Duties include electrical, carpentry, plumbing, and daily preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) of park facilities and grounds. Assists in the enforcement of park rules and regulations. Provides customer/visitor services and assists with camping registration. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduation from High School or GED.
  • Three years of facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.
  • Must possess a valid state driver's license.
  • Knowledge of general maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of building and facility maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical, masonry, janitorial, and mechanical maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Knowledge of scheduled and routine maintenance programs.
  • Knowledge of general custodial duties.
  • Knowledge of the construction, repair, maintenance and operation of buildings, equipment, and utility systems.
  • Knowledge of building materials.
  • Skill in using MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Skill in effective verbal and written communication.
  • Skill in repairs of vehicles and various power equipment.
  • Skill in the use of hand and power tools, mowers, trimmers, chain saws, tractors, backhoes, vehicles, generators, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Skill in building repair utilizing carpentry and other related work.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective work relationships with co-workers and work-related contacts.
  • Skill in selecting appropriate tools and equipment and in troubleshooting situations to determine appropriate actions to resolve problems.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.
  • Ability to work effectively and courteously with the public and co-workers.
  • Ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Ability to perform manual labor such as grounds, facility and trail maintenance.
  • Ability to follow instructions.
  • Ability to work from drawings, diagrams, or blueprints.
  • Ability to estimate materials.
  • Ability to apply proper methods, techniques, and procedures in the maintenance and repair of buildings and equipment.
  • Ability to provide guidance to others.
  • Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting supplies and materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to conduct work activities in accordance with TPWD safety program.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in electrical and plumbing repair.
  • Experience in customer service and/or public relations.
  • Experience in mechanical equipment operation and service/repair.
