Maintenance Specialist I - Nebraska State Penitentiary
About The Position
The Nebraska State Penitentiary is seeking maintenance workers to perform daily and routine maintenance throughout our facility. $21.355/hour PLUS $3.00/hour facility differential for hours worked. The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) employs nearly 2,300 team members operating nine institutions, which house approximately 5,200 inmates, statewide. Requirements
- Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade.
- Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.
- Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test.
- Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid NE Corrections Training Program.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the physical plant with repairs and preventive maintenance.
- Perform skilled carpentry work in the major renovation and construction of building, structures; constructs, alters, maintains, and repairs buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, walls, ceilings, doors, windows, screens, furniture and cabinets.
- Schedules and performs specialized preventative maintenance and repairs for equipment, systems, and machinery to ensure that necessary inspection, adjustment, and replacement of parts.
- Responsible for supervising inmates working in the maintenance department.
- Maintain accurate inventory of all stock and commonly used maintenance parts.
- Maintain accurate tool logs.
- Maintain an extensive array of tools, and follow all policies and procedures relating to tool control and purchasing of tools, equipment and parts.
- Responsible for maintenance related purchases and statement reconciliation.
