About The Position

Southern University at Shreveport is seeking a Maintenance Repairer 2 to join our team and help maintain a clean, welcoming campus environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Southern University at Shreveport (SUSLA) is one of five campuses comprising the Historically Black Southern University System. Our priority is to aid people from diverse backgrounds to improve the quality of their lives and become contributing participants in this community's cultural and economic development. SUSLA has approximately 3,180 undergraduate students, 413 full and part-time employees including 175 faculty members. The University offers 33 undergraduate degrees and confers some 350 degrees annually. SUSLA's annual operating budget is approximately $12 million. The physical plant, located on Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive is more than 100 acres with 11 buildings. SUSLA has two additional locations to provide educational opportunities and accessibility: the Downtown Metro Center providing state-of-the-art allied health programs, and the Aerospace Technology Center at the Shreveport Downtown Airport that houses the FAA-approved Aerospace Technology and Maintenance programs. Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR  Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses. Requirements

  • Two years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or as a parks building and grounds attendant; OR
  • Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering; OR
  • Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses.

Responsibilities

  • Makes general repairs to buildings, interiors, exteriors, furniture, fixtures, air conditioning/heating systems and other mechanical and related fields such as plumbing, carpentry and electrical.
  • Troubleshoot and make repairs for maintenance issues with HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
  • Replace ceiling tiles throughout buildings as needed.
  • Perform maintenance and inspectionss on university vehicles as needed.
  • Replace bubls and ballasts as needed.
  • Grease hot and chilled water pumps.
  • Assist with key control and door locks.
  • Organize and update maintenance books.
