About The Position

The Maintenance Repair Specialist II is responsible for managing facility maintenance and repairs across multiple building systems. This includes assessing needs, coordinating and reviewing work performed by staff or contractors, and performing skilled trades work directly when needed. Under general supervision, they assist in project planning, reviews contractor work for compliance, develops maintenance procedures, supports budgeting by estimating repair costs, and may train or assign work to other staff. The position also requires familiarity with building drawings and specifications, identifying necessary parts and materials, and assisting contractors with campus projects. Specialists are part of the on-call rotation to respond to emergencies 24/7.

Requirements

  • Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades.
  • One year of journey level experience which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials.
  • One year of journey level experience as a Maintenance Repair Specialist I in Nevada State service.
  • A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition for continuing employment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled work across multiple trades, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, fire alarms, roofing, drywall, irrigation, and door hardware.
  • Diagnose issues, complete repairs, and coordinate with contractors as needed.
  • Identify and procure parts and materials for projects and repairs.
  • Inspect and maintain utility, mechanical, boiler, and air handling systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Service and troubleshoot pumps, motors, panels, and other equipment.
  • Conduct routine checks on fire alarm systems and resolve or escalate issues.
  • Coordinate and orient contractors on campus, ensuring proper access, safety compliance, and adherence to work orders, specifications, and contracts.
  • Review completed work for quality and accuracy.
  • Assist in project planning, develop maintenance procedures, and provide input on cost estimates for budgeting.
  • Read and interpret building plans and specifications to support maintenance and repair needs.
  • Participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation, responding to urgent issues and coordinating with staff or contractors to resolve problems quickly.
