About The Position

Maintenance Repair Specialist 1 performs a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment. Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work. This position maintains, repairs, and modifies a variety of specialized mechanical equipment and machinery, including but not limited to natural gas– and diesel-fueled electric power generators. Duties include determining the cause and extent of component or system failures through methods such as test drives, pressure and temperature checks, visual inspections, use of diagnostic equipment, and consultation of technical service manuals, service bulletins, blueprints, and schematic diagrams. The incumbent diagnoses malfunctions, identifies necessary replacement parts, and researches parts manuals to accurately order components required for repair. Responsibilities also include maintaining and repairing electrical and wiring systems; repairing or replacing generators and alternators; testing and replacing batteries; locating and correcting faulty fuses and wiring in emergency equipment electrical circuits; replacing ignition system components; servicing and repairing starters; and installing or replacing wiring, connectors, switches, motors, and lamps. Perform preventive and predictive generator maintenance; maintain records and prepare verbal and written reports pertaining to necessary projected maintenance; estimate costs and prepare budgets; contact contractors and vendors for budget projections and bids. Identify deficiencies, failures and malfunctions within mechanical systems and equipment upon inspection; repair and maintain systems, safe proper working order or condition. Respond to after hour facilities maintenance emergencies as required; perform journey level work in the building construction trades, including but not limited to: plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, roofing, automatic doors, windows and locks as required. This position will work 4-10 hour shifts Monday thru Thursday, 1:30pm to 12:00am. A valid Nevada class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Requirements

  • Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
  • A valid Nevada class C driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and must be maintained throughout employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in electrical systems, automatic transfer switches and emergency power systems, and plumbing
  • Nevada Fire F or G card.
