New Capability Development Introducing advanced technologies and automation to expand manufacturing capabilities. Environmental Compliance & Safety Ensuring adherence to environmental regulations and improving workplace safety by mitigating hazards. Infrastructure Replacement Upgrading aging assets and systems to maintain operational integrity and support future growth. Areas Covered: Melt Shop, CRM (Cold Rolling Mill), PFF (Precision Forging Facility), VAR/VIM Ongoing Projects Some of the high-level projects that are ongoing in our area: IBA Digital Chart Recorder VAR 2 56P Rebuild and Redesign FY26 VIM 2 Mold Carriage #1 Rebuild Spare Siemens 38kV Breaker and TIV Thermal Sensor Cameras PFF loading arm rebuild 3-Hi Gearbox Overhaul Your Role as an Intern The intern will support the engineering team in projects related to: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), industrial controllers, and automation systems. Gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting, programming, and integration of control systems in a manufacturing environment.   • The intern will support the engineering team in projects related to: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), industrial controllers, and automation systems.
  • Gain hands-on experience in troubleshooting, programming, and integration of control systems in a manufacturing environment.
  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program majoring in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics or Automation with a preference for rising juniors or seniors.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Willing and able to work on-site at our Latrobe, PA location.
  • Applicants MUST be US Citizens or Green Card Holders due to Carpenter’s government contracts.
  • Ideal candidates will have strong analytical and problem solving skills as well as coursework involving control systems and industrial automation.
  • Exposure to the following is preferable: understanding of PLC architecture and ladder logic; familiarity with industrial controllers (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar); knowledge of automation concepts (sensors, actuators, communication protocols); ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
