About The Position

Experience/ Requirements: High school diploma or GED required; technical or vocational training in diesel technology preferred. 5+ years of hands-on experience in diesel transit maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory, quality assurance, or training role. ASE certifications in Medium/Heavy Truck (T-Series) or equivalent preferred. In-depth knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, air brakes, and emission systems. Strong understanding of DOT, OSHA, and EPA regulations related to transit vehicles. Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in various conditions (garage, outdoors, noisy environments). Comfortable standing, bending, and working under vehicles for extended periods. Key Accountabilities / Responsibilities: Quality Control Perform inspections, diagnostics, and audits of diesel transit vehicles to ensure compliance with internal standards and DOT, EPA, and manufacturer regulations. Review maintenance records and repair logs for accuracy, completeness, and regulatory compliance. Identify root causes of recurring issues and work with technicians to implement corrective actions. Monitor and assess the performance of mechanics and technicians regarding quality of work. Develop and maintain quality control procedures and documentation. Support warranty claim processes through proper documentation and reporting of defects. Training Develop and deliver training programs for new hires and ongoing staff development, including hands-on training and classroom instruction. Train maintenance staff on diesel engine systems, air brakes, electronic diagnostics, emissions systems, and safety procedures. Maintain current knowledge of new diesel technologies, equipment updates, and regulatory changes. Ensure all technicians are certified as required (e.g., ASE, OEM certifications) and support certification efforts. Collaborate with supervisors to identify training gaps and customize training to address performance issues. Skills: Detail Oriented Ability to interpret and explain regulations to others Excellent time management skills with ability to prioritize. Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; able to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders. Ability to exercise good judgment, solve complex problems, and adapt established methods to new situations. Able to manage multiple priorities with speed, accuracy, and a focus on safety. Proficiency in using diagnostic tools, maintenance software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
