About The Position

The Maintenance Planner & Buyer (MPB) is responsible for scheduling maintenance activities in a manner that minimizes the impact on production, while obtaining the goals required for asset reliability. The MPB evaluates the need for replacement parts, obtains competitive quotes, and places orders. The MPB will be responsible for assuring correct stock levels of the maintenance spare parts area and buying replacement or new stock items required. They will be responsible for maintaining correct inventory accuracy in the spare parts and maintenance area. The MPB will provide professional, quality service and support for the maintenance team to ensure smooth, continuous, and efficient production flow. The successful associate will be able to identify and prioritize multiple projects with a continuous focus on ways to improve processes. They will also lead, delegate, direct the tasks of a specialized team (i.e., Utilities, Electrical or PLC), while providing support and general direction to all Maintenance Technicians or specific contractors. The maintenance planner will also be responsible for maintaining adequate 3rd party maintenance contracts are scheduled and performed to the standards expected by the maintenance team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role is preferred.
  • 2 - 5 years industrial maintenance experience required.
  • 1 – 3 years in a Lead or supervisory role strongly preferred.
  • Experience in the Food Manufacturing industry strongly preferred.
  • Regular and reliable attendance required.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and problem-solving skills, especially related to automation issues.
  • Ability to collect and analyze data.
  • Ability to read, interpret and explain vendor manuals, drawings, blueprints and schematics.
  • Detail oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Strong computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word)
  • 1 – 3 years experience in a CMMS system strongly preferred.
  • Able to be contacted in case of, and respond to, an emergency.
  • Understands and supports Good Manufacturing Practices and Lean principles, including but not limited to 5S to maintain a clean, sanitary and safe work area, maintaining audit ready status at all times.
  • Communicates effectively with production associates, maintenance associates and management, verbally and in writing.
  • Supports plant production needs and priorities to achieve plant goals.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment where priorities change quickly.
  • Willing to work as part of a team.
  • Takes the initiative and pro-actively seeks to resolve issues independently when discovered.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for initial screening of incoming work orders, identification of scope, and analysis of required level of planning.
  • Conducts production floor walks to identify and document job requirements.
  • Identifies specific safety hazards that will be encountered in the performance of the proposed work.
  • Assists with safety procedures and training, ensuring that all aspects of the safety policies are incorporated into job plans.
  • Estimates required hours on work order tasks, total work order duration, and skills required to perform the task.
  • Plans jobs and schedules maintenance activities such as preventative maintenance, inspections, scheduled downtime, repairs and project management with appropriate level of detail for the technicians and accounting for downtime, interruptions and back-up planning.
  • Develops and maintains daily, weekly and weekend work schedules for all of maintenance, assigning and delegating tasks to technicians based on the individual skill sets, capabilities and expertise required.
  • Responsible for managing all work orders, schedules and records in the BAP Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) as required.
  • Leads and mentors the work of their assigned team of technicians in efficient and safe repair and maintenance on all assigned equipment and machinery, training and sharing knowledge as applicable, ensuring downtime is minimized.
  • Prioritizes and delegates tasks to their assigned team, following up and providing guidance where needed.
  • Ensures rental and leased equipment is well maintained and fully operational, manages the stock and status of this equipment (Forklift, pallet jack, scissor lift,etc.)
  • Determines and includes QA/QC requirements on jobs.
  • Procures parts, equipment, specialized tools and other resources required to perform work orders.
  • Gathers necessary engineering or technical documents, specifications, and drawings.
  • Writes clear and concise work procedures.
  • Determines and arranges for parts (procures if needed) required to perform the work.
  • Plans parts for all projects to increase “wrench time” and maximize efficiency.
  • Compiles information into a job package that is ready for the technicians – clearly communicates with the technicians regarding critical steps in the process.
  • Prints and delivers work orders to the technicians in conjunction with the weekly work schedule.
  • Upon completion of jobs, communicates with production and maintenance management and technicians regarding ideas and procedures to improve efficiency.
  • Ensure smooth and timely service, repairs, receipt of parts, equipment and other orders.
  • Manages the maintenance stock parts room at AIU and obtains competitive price and shipments quotes for all products, maintaining parts and inventory needs for the facility while looking for cost savings opportunities.
  • Coordinates priority setting with maintenance management, placing specific emphasis on operations efficiency and customer service.
  • Communicates regularly with maintenance management regarding obstacles to efficient maintenance service, including downtime and outage schedules, issues with inventory, or the need for outside contractor service, among other concerns.
  • Manages the asset list for the facility and updates the CMMS program when equipment is added or removed – adjust also the preventative maintenance activities for these new or removed assets
  • Able to accurately maintain and measure the maintenance backlog in its various forms (including CMMS, among others).
  • Responsible for equipment and repair parts data entry and management.
  • Ensures all work orders and maintenance log items are closed when work is finished.
  • Participates in outage planning activities such as scope identification and control, scheduling, coordination, risk assessment, execution and continuous improvement.
  • Communicates with, schedules and manages contractor resources, along with the performance expectations. Ensures that all of the details of the work order are clearly communicated and understood.
  • Ability to stand-in as Maintenance Supervisor when needed

  • Consistently supports Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) compliance, protecting the assets of the organization, and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that safety practices are properly followed, including adherence to proper PPE requirements, OSHA regulations, company equipment and personal safety policies, role modeling behavior and maintaining clean and organized work spaces.
  • Pro-actively seeks to correct unsafe conditions and reports any conditions that are not immediately resolved.
  • May assist with maintenance repairs and activities on the equipment as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.
