About The Position

PURPOSE: Lead and provide support on the critical aspects within the maintenance department to ensure the continuous and ongoing operations of the plant. This position is responsible for planning and execution of the maintenance activities to effectively balance operating reliability against maintenance costs while meeting plant goals for safety and productivity.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, electrical or other relevant engineering field, or other degree relevant to power plant operations/maintenance preferred, with a minimum of two (2) years experience in utility generation. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
  • Knowledge of the operation, maintenance, design and construction of power generating facilities and related equipment.
  • Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively with individuals at various levels both internally and externally.
  • Management training and administration skills.
  • Awareness of pertinent regulations, codes, and standards.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player as well as independently.
  • Must be able to climb (stairs, sky climber, confined spaces).
  • Ability to wear breathing equipment (35 lbs.) and safety harness.
  • On call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. Must be able to respond in a reasonable timeframe.

Responsibilities

  • Review work requests (WR) to ensure that all necessary information is entered and clear. Approve or disapprove WRs and provide timely feedback on status and information to requester.
  • Prepare detailed work order packages as needed for maintenance work to include craft requirements, tools and equipment requirements, clearances and permits, work methods, plans, specs and/or manuals, and identify need for coordination instructions for cross-craft or outside services.
  • Develops and updates equipment master records, including parts lists, inspections, lubrication and other PM requirements and warranties. Coordinates and may enter maintenance history, criticality and hierarchical position. Enter new equipment records for replacements, projects and capital improvements, including appropriate parts lists and baselines.
  • Determine material and parts availability as part of the work order planning process, keeping jobs out of “ready to schedule” status until parts availability is confirmed. Originates stores requests and purchase requisitions as needed.
  • Review scoped work orders with maintenance management & forepersons to ensure agreement with scope, methods, time & craft requirements before scheduling.
  • Estimate the cost of all planned work using historical information, applicable standards and personal judgment.
  • Assist in the development and systemization of new PMs/PdMs required by new equipment. Support and promote station’s overall work management philosophy for existing equipment.
  • Recommend to management/stores personnel appropriate min/max levels, especially for increasing/decreasing requirements and for new stock items.
  • Act as a member of the plant management team to evaluate, recommend and install procedures and initiatives that provide for the efficient operation and maintenance of new equipment and systems.
  • Support the utilization of the CMMS for planning and scheduling work at the station(s).
  • Identify opportunities to maximize the use and effectiveness of the CMMS to facilitate better maintenance processes at the site.
  • Keep department management continuously apprised of conditions concerning station operations and work culture, as well as planned corrective or supportive actions.
  • Participate when assigned to various committees such as Site Steering, Safety Subcommittee, etc.
  • Ensure that all personal interactions on the job are consistent with the station values.
  • Actively seek education, training and other opportunities for knowledge and understanding of responsibilities in achieving station strategic goals.
  • Actively seek assignments and tasks to promote personal growth and career development, leading to trust as an independent decision-maker.
  • Actively participate with the Maintenance Manager or Manager, Alma Fuels and Solid Waste to seek the successful accomplishment of roles and responsibilities by identifying and removing barriers to understanding, knowledge, procedure, communication, etc.
  • Attend management meetings and other company functions as required.
  • Evaluate completed WOs for opportunities to improve estimates and work methods.
  • Evaluate equipment histories to identify failure trends and improvement opportunities. Recommend adjustments to processes, methods, planning and scheduling to address unfavorable trends.
  • Assist in preparation of department budgets as requested, especially in relation to planned projects.
  • Lead in the development of improved operational and maintenance practices, especially as related to new processes.
  • Participate as a member of action plan, root cause and other teams as needed to ensure successful utilization of the established work processes by station personnel in addressing issues and developing solutions.
  • Assist departments with implementation support of improved processes as requested.
  • Performs any and all other duties, tasks and responsibilities that may be assigned by authorized personnel.
