About The Position

Wisconsin River Power Company, a subsidiary of WEC Energy Group, is seeking a Maintenance Operator - Maintenance Mechanic in our Necedah, Wisconsin location. This position is represented by Local No. 1147. Requirements

  • Associate Degree in the area of industrial mechanics, instrumentation, power technology or power repair. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • Valid Drivers License
  • Valid CDL or ability to obtain a CDL within 6 months of acceptance of the position and remain valid for the length of employment
  • AWS welding certified, forklift and lift truck certified, qualified in confined space entry and fall arrest protection or the ability to pass within the six (6) month probationary period
  • CPR certified or the ability to pass CPR certification when provided by the company
  • Must have a phone and live within 45 minutes response time of the WRPCO Office located at the Petenwell Hydro in Necedah, WI, as defined by the Emergency Action Plan or the ability to relocate within one (1) year of starting in the role

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years experience in hydro operations, maintenance, industrial operating, electric troubleshooting or equivalent
  • Hydroelectric turbine plant operations
  • Prior experience with mechanical maintenance
  • Knowledge of emergency action plans, FERC regulations, PLC and electronic controls
  • Knowledge of spill prevention, control and counter measures
  • AWS structural welding certified, confined space entry procedures, fall arrest equipment use, in depth fork and lift truck operation, watercraft operation, crane and rigging, and heavy equipment operation experience
  • Ability to operate chain saw and other power equipment. Operate various plant controls

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the reliable production of electricity and the safe, efficient operation of Wisconsin River Power Company generators, auxiliary equipment, grounds and dams
  • Perform preventative and corrective maintenance duties on equipment and systems associated with hydroelectric operations
  • Operate Hydroelectric Facilities
  • Installs, maintains and removes channel markers and navigational buoys
  • Installs and removes docks
  • Inspects hydroelectric powerhouses, dikes, dams and substations
  • Maintain equipment in optimal condition, prevents premature failures and ensures compliance with design specifications
  • Assist with the on-the-job training of other Maintenance Operators
  • Ability to work cooperatively and under the direction of others
  • Must be able to work effectively without direct supervision
