About The Position
IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position. This occupation requires the maintenance, repair, modification and installation of plant machinery and mechanical equipment, including their hydraulic, vacuum, and pneumatic systems and related components for fabrication machines, machine tools, and environmental test equipment, and the construction and installation of special equipment such as structural supports, manufacturing aids, and test stands. Determine and perform the preventive maintenance work necessary to prevent functional breakdowns requiring major overhaul and rebuilding of plant machinery and equipment. Determine methods and sequence of repair operations required on these machines and equipment working from manufacturers' drawings and specifications, installation layouts and sketches, and verbal and written instructions. Scribe reference lines and points on raw stock by using damaged, or worn part as a template. Make working sketches directly from machine or part; note material needs, fabrication and processing instructions. Perform such typical operations as dismantling, diagnosing trouble, repairing, mechanical servicing, reassembling, installing and test operating the aforementioned machines and equipment, including their hydraulic, vacuum, and pneumatic systems and related components for fabrication machines, machine tools, and environmental test equipment. Scrape and flake ways to stop galling, remove burns, or to restore oil film, scrape and babbit machine bearings, replace worn or broken parts, make adjustments and alignments as required. May be required to set-up and operate machine tools and fabrication machine to make new, or rework maintenance parts. Assist maintenance craftsmen in other fields of specialization when so assigned. Determine bearing points for moving machines and equipment. Determine sequence of operations and make layouts for the construction of special equipment such as manufacturing aids, test stands, and structural support. Work at various heights.
