About The Position

At Harvest Food Group (HFG), our mission is to create products that make a positive impact in the world. HFG is a private equity–backed company headquartered in Naperville, IL, with a production facility currently in Chicago, IL, and relocating to East Chicago, IN in Q1 2026. The Maintenance Mechanic Level II is a journey level role responsible for supporting reliable plant operations by performing advanced troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair activities across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems. Technicians at this level work more independently than Level I staff, handling a broader range of duties and moderately complex tasks with minimal supervision. This position helps maintain equipment performance, applies safety and food quality standards, uses CMMS systems to track work, and contributes to continuous improvement in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • 3 to 5 years of maintenance mechanic experience required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong communication skills
  • Bilingual preferred English and Spanish
  • Solid teamwork skills
  • Ability to read and write in English
  • Proficiency in mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
  • Moderate knowledge of safety regulations
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and schematics
  • Basic knowledge of PLC Programmable Logic Controller systems preferred
  • Ability to work within timelines and under pressure based on production needs
  • Availability to work scheduled hours, including weekends as required
  • Ability to stand, bend, and climb stairs for extended periods (10–12 hours per day as needed)
  • Ability to work in a refrigerated environment (32–36 °F)
  • Must be able to lift to 50 pounds multiple times throughout the day

Responsibilities

  • Performing a wide range of duties including diagnosing and repairing mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems issues.
  • Conducting moderately complex preventive and predictive maintenance using some external measuring tools.
  • Troubleshooting and resolving equipment breakdowns efficiently to minimize production downtime.
  • Using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to record activities and manage work orders.
  • Occasionally providing technical guidance or instruction to less experienced staff.
