Pritchard Industries, in collaboration with Norwalk Public Schools, We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced a skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic to join our Districtwide Facilities and Maintenance team. This position plays a key role in maintaining and repairing school buildings and facilities to ensure safe, efficient, and well-functioning learning environments. Under the supervision of the Supervisor of Maintenance, the Maintenance Mechanic performs skilled work in a variety of trades including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, masonry, boiler and furnace repair, oil burner maintenance, drywall, and general facility upkeep.

Requirements

  • Proficiency in at least one primary trade (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, or electrical work) is required; skill in one or more additional trade areas is preferred.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team on diverse maintenance projects.
  • Must provide and maintain basic personal tools (larger tools furnished by employer; worn or broken tools replaced).
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret drawings for small job estimation and material takeoffs.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills to efficiently plan work, request materials, and avoid delays.
  • Must be reliable, professional, and capable of following direction from the Maintenance Foreman or Supervisor.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; trade school or apprenticeship preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of satisfactory work experience in general plant or facility maintenance.
  • Electricians and plumbers must hold a valid license issued by the State of Connecticut or local control boards.
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Ability to lift, move, and carry materials, equipment, and tools as needed.
  • Must be able to work safely in various environments and weather conditions.
  • Flexibility to respond to emergency maintenance situations as required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled maintenance and repair work across multiple trades, including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting, drywall, masonry, and boiler/furnace systems.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and building system issues as required.
  • Assist with oil burner repair and general troubleshooting of heating systems.
  • Support large- and small-scale maintenance projects throughout district facilities.
  • Collaborate with other trades such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, and painters on maintenance and repair assignments.
  • Participate in moving and setting up equipment, furniture, and materials as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
  • Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized work environment at all times.
  • Follow all applicable safety standards, codes, and procedures established by Pritchard Industries and Norwalk Public Schools.
