The City of O'Fallon, Missouri is seeking a skilled and dependable Maintenance Mechanic – Water & Sewer to support the operation, maintenance, and repair of critical water and wastewater systems across the City. Requirements

  • Considerable knowledge of mechanical equipment maintenance and repair
  • Knowledge of pumping processes and associated equipment
  • Working knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical, and electronic control systems
  • Ability to read wiring diagrams and blueprints
  • Understanding of safety procedures related to high-voltage equipment
  • Skill in repairing SCADA, instrumentation, and control systems
  • Skill in operating specialized equipment and hand/power tools
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and electromechanical systems
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to use computers and mobile devices for data entry and system monitoring
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and maneuver equipment up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to work on-call evenings, weekends, and in all weather conditions
  • 1–2 years of experience, apprenticeship, or internship in a related field
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a Class A Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement (Missouri)
  • Ability to obtain Missouri DNR Drinking Water Treatment, Water Distribution, and Wastewater Treatment certifications, as well as MWEA Collection System Operator certification

Responsibilities

  • Support 24/7 operations for the Water Treatment Plant, Wastewater Treatment Plant, Water Wells, and Sewer Pump Stations
  • Repair, install, test, and inspect hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and SCADA systems
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on water and sewer facilities
  • Diagnose equipment deficiencies and conduct advanced troubleshooting
  • Analyze and repair motor control panels, electrical control equipment, and high-voltage systems (220V/480V)
  • Utilize specialized test equipment such as megohmmeters and volt-ohm meters
  • Maintain pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic, and computer-based control systems
  • Inspect and repair instrumentation, PLCs, sensors, transmitters, wiring, and VFDs
  • Perform welding, cutting, and installation/repair of process piping
  • Operate machinery and heavy equipment including skid steers, wheel loaders, cranes, vacuum/jet trucks, and backhoes
  • Assist with purchasing parts, tools, and safety equipment
  • Maintain buildings, grounds, lagoons, and various City facilities
  • Complete accurate recordkeeping and daily equipment readings
  • Assist with snow-removal operations and emergency response
  • Provide functional supervision in the absence of a supervisor
  • Perform additional duties that support overall Water & Sewer Operations
