About The Position

Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts Inspects used parts to determine changes in dimensional requirements Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments Repairs or replaces defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices Lubricates and cleans parts Starts devices to test their performance Sets up and operates lathe, drill press, grinder, band saw, milling machine, welder, and other metalworking tools to make and repair parts Movement/positioning/replacement of heavy weight equipment with the aid of mechanical means such as forklifts, pry bars, and chain falls Position requires pushing toolbox to work areas Requires carrying, lifting, and transporting of parts to and from work location and maintenance shop by hand or mechanical means Cleans work area, tools, and equipment Safety and Equipment Use Personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory and includes cut-resistant and heat-resistant gloves and sleeves, safety glasses, goggles, face shields, bump caps, ear plugs, and steel-toed shoes. The job involves continuous use of hand tools ranging from small screwdrivers to large pipe wrenches, requiring both fine dexterity and physical force. Position requires the use of hand tools such as wrenches, hammers, punches, screw drivers, pliers, and pipe wrenches on a continuous basis to perform normal duties. Tasks range from fine adjustments that require dexterity for circuit board adjustments to using both hands to apply force when pushing or pulling a wrench to break pipe fittings Electrical and Mechanical Systems Additional responsibilities include plant startup and shutdown tasks, energizing equipment, and ensuring proper operation. Cleaning machines to prepare for painting, oiling, and greasing machinery are also part of the role. The position involves installing power supply wiring and conduit for new machines, connecting power and communication cables, diagnosing and repairing electrical apparatus such as transformers, motors, relays, switches, and printed circuit boards. Maintenance of electric motors, including bearing replacement and rewiring, is required. Planning and installing wiring layouts and conduits in buildings fall under the job scope as well. Mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment are also diagnosed and repaired or replaced as necessary. The maintenance of a clean work area, tools, and equipment is emphasized. Oils and greases machine Installs power supply wiring and conduit for newly installed machines and equipment such as conveyors and programmable controllers Connects power supply wires to machines and equipment, and connects cables and wires between machines and equipment Diagnoses malfunctioning apparatus such as transformers, motors, and lighting fixtures and replaces damaged or broken wire and cables Replaces faulty electrical components on machine such as relays, switches, and motors, and positions sensing devices Diagnoses and repairs or replaces faulty electronic components, such as printed circuit boards Replaces electric motor bearings and rewires motors Plans layout of wiring and installs wiring, conduit, and electrical apparatus in buildings Diagnoses and replaces faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment Administrative and Communication Duties The role requires utilizing a computer system for work order entry and tracking completion status. It also involves initiating purchase orders for parts and machines and keeping supervisors informed of any problems or unusual situations. Other duties may be assigned by supervision.
