About The Position

The Maintenance Lead leads the maintenance function for all packaging, manufacturing, and conveying equipment and systems. This role has direct responsibility for leading the maintenance team, assigning work, evaluating performance, and making recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and terminations. The lead ensures safety and compliance, drives preventive and corrective maintenance programs, and contributes to strategic decisions regarding equipment optimization and operational efficiency. This position will support operations by installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing and optimizing packaging, manufacturing, and conveying equipment. This position creates value for the facility by performing preventative and corrective maintenance leading to increased uptime and reliability, thus helping the facility to meet their production and quality goals.

Requirements

  • Must comply with GMP requirements; specific functions and documents will be discussed in GMP and on-the-job training
  • Requires bachelor’s degree, preferably in engineering or another technical field experience in lieu of education
  • 10+ years of experience as machine maintenance mechanic or similar role within nutrition, pharmaceutical, or food industry
  • 3+ years as a maintenance mechanic A or similar role within the nutrition, pharmaceutical, or food industry
  • Advanced electrical skills: troubleshooting PLCs, sensors, drives, speed controllers, servo, stepper, AC, and DC motors
  • Advanced mechanical skills: repairing motors, pumps, hydraulics, chains, belts
  • Lock out-tag-out knowledge
  • Ability to read mechanical and electrical schematics and drawings
  • Ability to maintain maintenance logs
  • Knowledge of health and safety practices and regulations
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with maintenance software
  • Experience with leading a maintenance team
  • Ability to maintain positive vendor relationships
  • Knowledge in maintaining expenses within the set budget
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment that may include heat, noise, and confined spaces.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise, schedule, and direct the daily activities of the maintenance team.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, performance evaluations, and disciplinary action as needed.
  • Participate in the recruitment process, hiring, which include conducting interviews and making recommendations for staffing decisions.
  • Lead team meetings, promote high morale, and foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee and manage all maintenance operations, including troubleshooting, installation, repair, and upgrades of machinery and systems.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce preventive maintenance programs aligned with industry best practices and manufacturer specifications.
  • Ensure high equipment uptime and reliability across manufacturing, packaging, and conveying systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (production, quality, safety) to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Maintain organized records of all maintenance activities, logs, inspections, and SOPs.
  • Ensure compliance with GMP, OSHA, lockout/tagout procedures, and all regulatory standards.
  • Monitor expenses and approve purchase orders for parts and services.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of spare parts and supplies.
  • Lead or contribute to capital and operational improvement projects aimed at increasing efficiency, safety, or performance.
  • Analyze equipment performance trends and make data-driven recommendations to improve reliability.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendor relationships, negotiations, and service contracts.
  • Perform hands-on maintenance work as needed.
  • Complete all assigned tasks and projects in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by leadership.
