About The Position

This position is assigned to Maury Correctional Institution located in Hookerton, NC. Maury CI is a close/medium custody facility which houses approximately 1500 male offenders. Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences There was an update to the Salary Range Effective February 1,2026. The new salary range is $41,206 - $72,113 The primary purpose of the position is to perform skilled work in the maintenance, repair and/or construction of buildings and facilities. Work requires specialization in two or more technical trades in connection with maintenance of facilities, related equipment and machinery. Position functions at the journey level in multiple skilled trades such as electrical, plumbing, masonry, heating and air or similar specializations. Work assignments are complex and required planning and coordination of multiple trade disciplines. Position functions with limited oversight and seek input from higher level trades specialist in the completion of novel maintenance problems and issues. Work is performed independently; however, positions may refer unusu al work problems to their supervisor for consideration and final determination. Position provides technical guidance to other positions engaged skilled, semiskilled, or unskilled maintenance work. Position ensures that work performed adheres to established maintenance, repair and or construction standards.

Requirements

  • Must be able to guide the work of skilled workers.
  • Must be able to follo w oral and written instructions.
  • Must have physical strength sufficient to perform heavy physical tasks for extended periods of time.
  • Must have skill in use of tools required in various technically complex trades.
  • Must be able to understand and work for sketches or pe nciled drawings.
  • Must be able to operate common types of machine shop or woodworking power equipment.
  • Documented working knowledge of commercial/industrial maintenance.
  • Documented knowledge of general maintenance and/or repair of building, equipment and/or machinery.
  • High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
