About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic II - Facilities & Operations is a highly skilled work involving building maintenance trades in the area of heating/ventilation and air conditioning, electrical and plumbing. An employee in this class receives guidance from the Superintendent and Lead Maintenance Mechanic. An employee may be required to direct assignments to and oversee work activities of one or more Maintenance Workers or lower-level Maintenance Mechanics. Performance is evaluated on a project basis.

Requirements

  • 3 years of related experience
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Journeyman Electrician License recognized by the State of Maryland (Required)
  • Knowledge of the practices and methods of servicing and maintaining County equipment
  • Ability to make decisions and the use of independent judgment
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Organizational skills, including the capacity to anticipate issues and prioritize tasks, and the ability to manage multiple priorities or projects
  • Ability to maintain composure, even in challenging situations
  • Ability to manage conflict and tactfully handle complaints and difficult situations
  • Ability to estimate materials, supplies, tools, and staff hours needed to complete assigned tasks
  • Troubleshooting skills
  • Ability to read and understand unit schematics, electric and plumbing shop drawings
  • Basic computer skills with the ability to utilize software, hardware, and communication devices to perform tasks
  • Equipment maintenance and repair skills
  • Ability to install and operate equipment

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots and repairs equipment in the field, performs corrective and routine preventive maintenance to ensure equipment reliability
  • Performs beginning and intermediate level service, maintenance, and repair in the County facilities to complete renovations, upgrades, and repairs to facility equipment
  • Operates County vehicles to transport equipment and materials needed to complete work orders, renovations, repairs, or other assigned duties
  • Responds to work orders by determining the cause of problem(s), and performing necessary repairs within the specified time
  • Follows the applicable Health and Safety laws to prevent Health and Safety accidents
  • Completes paperwork related to work orders
  • Prepares reports pertaining to labor, time, and materials
  • Plans and schedules daily work assignments, equipment, and materials required, ensuring adequate resources and materials are allocated to complete the job
  • Performs non-permit-required skilled trade work in County facilities to complete repairs to facility equipment
