About The Position

Install and maintain the mechanical and electrical components of the heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems, such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats, and switches for Johnson County Community College (JCCC). Install, maintain, and troubleshoot errors on campus fire alarm systems and devices.

Requirements

  • Completes assignments with little supervision.
  • May assist less-experienced team members.
  • Requires a High School Diploma and 3+ years of related experience.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record to be insured to operate college vehicles.
  • Must possess Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Universal License.

Responsibilities

  • Repair and install HVAC equipment and answer calls regarding hot/cold internal environment temperature concerns for various areas on campus.
  • Utilize the JCCC across-campus Johnson Controls single platform building automation system using automated logic to enhance the comfort, safety, and productivity of JCCC faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Coordinate and supervise external contractors.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on air handlers, fan coils, vacuum pumps, air compressors, condensers, and towers and maintain chemicals for towers.
  • Maintain current equipment logs and inventory and order parts and supplies when needed.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and install Johnson Controls fire alarm system.
  • Establish fire alarm system testing and inspection per local code standards to ensure compliance.
  • Install new Variable Air Volume (VAV) boxes using sheet metal hand tools, breaks, and sheers to ensure airflow is at a constant temperature to heat and cool buildings.
  • Maintain, replace, and repair fan coil units, heaters, pumps, valves, and exhaust fans for campus buildings.
  • Respond to emergency calls on nights and weekends.
  • Perform winter snow removal on campus by snowplowing, sweeping, shoveling, and applying ice melt, salt, and sand when needed.
  • Partner with the electricians, plumbers, HVAC technicians, custodial, and grounds crews to help maintain the campus.
  • Other duties as assigned.
