About The Position

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic-Housing for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). This position is primarily responsible for performing mechanical maintenance duties, which include the examination, dismantling, repair, reassembly, and maintenance of various types of mechanical and electrical equipment. This encompasses refrigeration units, heating systems, air handling machinery, air conditioners, pumps, plumbing and steamfitting equipment, boilers, filters, and more. The role requires the inspection, repair, and replacement of used and defective parts, as well as the adjustment, lubrication, and cleaning of functional parts to ensure optimal operation. In addition to the core responsibilities, the Maintenance Mechanic may be required to perform general tasks such as painting, carpentry, locksmithing, masonry, and electrical duties. Preventive maintenance and repair duties are a significant part of the job, along with cleaning the shop and work areas. The mechanic will also be responsible for detecting faulty operations of equipment and reporting questionable conditions to the supervisor. Conducting inventory of equipment, materials, and supplies is also part of the role, and the mechanic may be required to give instruction to craft trainees as needed. This position is full-time, with a standard work schedule from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 4:30 PM.
