About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic position involves performing diversified maintenance functions related to pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical equipment, as well as facilities repairs. The role requires obtaining the knowledge and skills to perform all Maintenance II functions and other assigned duties while adhering to safety protocols and company policies.

Requirements

  • Must be trained in and follow company policies on GMP, sanitation, pre-requisite programs, chemical control, and food safety plans and policies.
  • Must be competent to carry out food packaging safety and quality responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate condition of and change punches, dies, cavities, plugs.
  • Repair air cylinders and learn to grind tooling.
  • Learn causes of machine malfunction and repair or replace parts such as sprockets, chains, rails, channels, couplings, copper tubing, hoses, and fittings.
  • Clean or replace filters for blending and drive systems.
  • Replace bearings for blending system and oven reflectors, vacuum pumps, air and vacuum tanks, clutches, grease lines, fuses, drive belts, pulleys, micro-switches, and guards.
  • Clean and flush chrome rolls, replace light bulbs, and weigh fire extinguishers.
  • Operate drill press, hand-held tools, saws, forklift, and electric hoist.
  • Troubleshoot and clean heat exchangers, belts, coils, solenoid valves, hoses, and plumbing for chillers/mold cooling units.
  • Perform tests for hardness and keep sensors clean in the water system.
  • Know when to change filters, oil, and hoses for air compressors.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic systems and change filters, oil, and hoses.
  • Analyze and repair electronic systems in the plant.
  • Pull wires, check and change fuses, rebuild starters, and replace plugs and outlets in industrial electrical tasks.
  • Replace windows, door locks, patch roofs, and clean sewers in building maintenance.
  • Change filters, replace belts, patch ductwork, and troubleshoot heating/air conditioning systems.
  • Weld, learn light brazing, and soldering for burning/welding/fabricating tasks.
  • Assist with tooling changeovers and ensure all gauges are working properly.
  • Learn Maintenance II responsibilities and maintain clean work areas.
  • Have basic knowledge of requisitioning parts and where various parts are stored in the tool crib.
  • Report food packaging safety problems to plant management.
