About The Position
The Maintenance Mechanic 2 at the University of Miami is responsible for ensuring that all building systems and equipment are functioning optimally to support uninterrupted facility operations. This role involves a variety of tasks including inspecting, repairing, installing, modifying, and maintaining general building systems. The Maintenance Mechanic will work closely with technical support staff, providing direction and support as needed. A key aspect of this position is to maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations, ensuring compliance at all times. In addition to routine maintenance, the Maintenance Mechanic will develop and implement preventive maintenance and repair programs. This includes responding to service requests, which may involve urgent situations such as hot calls, cold calls, and odor complaints. The role also requires inspecting water and life safety systems, as well as responding to fire systems and emergency calls. The Maintenance Mechanic must adhere to university policies and procedures, safeguarding university assets while maintaining a neat and orderly work area. The position is considered essential personnel, which means that the Maintenance Mechanic will be required to respond to emergencies after hours or on days off, and may need to provide weekend support. The role demands a commitment to the university's core values, effective communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. The Maintenance Mechanic will also be responsible for minor plumbing and electrical repairs, maintenance of air handler units, and ensuring that a comprehensive preventative maintenance schedule is in place for all machinery.
