About The Position

The Maintenance Mechanic 2 at Skagit Valley College is responsible for performing journey-level building maintenance work across various skilled trades, including electrical, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance. This role primarily operates at the Mount Vernon Campus but may extend to other locations within the college district. The position involves maintaining safe work areas, managing maintenance tasks for college buildings and equipment, and acting as a liaison between vendors and the Assistant Director of Facilities. The Maintenance Mechanic 2 is expected to use independent judgment to address emergent situations effectively.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in the building trades.
  • Two years of experience working on building mechanical systems.
  • Experience in general building construction and repair.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working for a government or public institution.
  • Completion of a trade school program in electrical, HVAC, or plumbing.
  • Five years of applicable experience in electrical work, HVAC, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, maintain, repair, replace, install, and modify electrical distribution equipment.
  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical connections, switches, circuits, and equipment.
  • Isolate defects in wiring and troubleshoot electrical systems using testing instruments.
  • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC equipment and devices, including programming thermostats and replacing filters.
  • Perform plumbing tasks such as winterizing buildings, repairing fixtures, and maintaining water lines.
  • Conduct carpentry work including repairing cabinets and installing door openers.
  • Monitor and repair safety and environmental control equipment to ensure satisfactory operation.
  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance tasks on facilities and equipment.
  • Respond to work requests for general repairs and maintenance tasks.
