About The Position

The Maintenance Manager at International Paper's Prattville Mill is responsible for overseeing all maintenance activities within a complex pulp and paper manufacturing facility. This role involves collaborating with various departments to ensure safety, reliability, and efficiency in operations. The Maintenance Manager will lead a team, manage budgets, and implement strategies to reduce downtime and improve equipment reliability, while also fostering a culture of safety and employee engagement.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of Pulp and Paper industry experience with 5 years in Maintenance or Maintenance Engineering.
  • Demonstrated record of safety commitment and results.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate to groups and individuals at all levels.
  • Demonstrated leadership focused on accountability and results.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance functions.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Knowledgeable in engineering principles and practices applicable to an industrial manufacturing facility.
  • Strong desire to work in a heavy manufacturing setting.
  • High regard for safety in the workplace and active willingness to be a safety leader.
  • Comfort with all levels of employees including operators, engineers, contractors, and various levels of management.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate leadership in safety and support participation in the mill's safety process.
  • Develop and nurture a team-based organization committed to employee engagement and teamwork.
  • Focus on developing a strong reliability culture between Maintenance, Operations, and Engineering.
  • Manage the department to achieve budget manufacturing costs and search for cost reduction methods.
  • Foster a culture that supports equipment care and improved reliability, aiming to reduce unscheduled downtime.
  • Set expectations and hold teams and individuals accountable for results.
  • Manage contractor relations, union relations, and internal and external customers.
  • Provide a structured shift operating maintenance system.
  • Set the Maintenance budget and manage all repair costs within budget.
  • Oversee equipment care, predictive maintenance repairs, and annual outage coordination.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with employees for guidance and development.
  • Manage in a goal-oriented environment to deliver targeted results in Safety, Employee Engagement, and Reliability Excellence.
  • Provide visible and active leadership while delivering excellent safety results.
  • Manage, identify, and implement process solutions to improve safety, reliability, and quality issues.
  • Accountable for delivering success from project development through implementation.
  • Engage project customers to ensure department and mill objectives are met.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Support 5S programs and drive improvement projects, audit systems, and achieve excellent results.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction strategies to lower ownership costs.
  • Implement systems to improve and sustain results.
  • Willing to work weekends and extra hours on shutdowns to meet project goals.
  • Fulfill weekend duty team lead role for the mill.
