About The Position

Chalk Point Generating Station, situated in Aquasco, Maryland, is a key power generation facility with a total capacity of approximately 1,618 MW. The station features a diverse lineup of nine generating units, including seven gas turbines and two steam turbines. This strategic configuration enhances efficiency and reliability, ensuring the station effectively meets regional energy demands. Opportunity Summary The Maintenance Manager at the Chalk Point Generating Station leads a skilled maintenance team to ensure safe, efficient plant operations while fostering a culture of engagement, accountability, and continuous improvement. This role manages preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, oversees projects and contractors, optimizes plant performance, and ensures compliance with technical and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the Maintenance Manager drives strategic planning, manages inventory and documentation, engages with the community, and executes special projects to support both operational excellence and long-term station objectives.

Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge and extensive experience in Power Plant operations or a similar field is required.
  • Proven experience in managing maintenance programs, including preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance, preferably in a power plant or similar industrial setting.
  • Strong technical knowledge of power plant equipment and systems, with the ability to diagnose equipment failures and implement best practices for plant performance improvement.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team management skills, capable of effectively overseeing and coordinating maintenance staff to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
  • In-depth understanding of safety regulations and practices, with a track record of promoting and maintaining a strong safety culture within a team or organization.
  • Experience in developing and implementing maintenance programs, including the use of Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and reliability-centered maintenance approaches.
  • Excellent communication skills, adept at collaborating with cross-functional teams and effectively communicating with superiors, subordinates, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, capable of identifying and addressing maintenance challenges and implementing effective improvements.
  • Must possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license, ensuring it remains in good standing at all times.

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or equivalent is desired, providing a strong foundation for understanding the technical aspects of power plant operations and management.
  • Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of education.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee maintenance personnel to ensure safe, efficient performance of maintenance and repair work in alignment with company policies, procedures, and technical specifications outlined in the station maintenance manual, while providing leadership to enhance morale, motivation, and engagement.
  • Assist in the recruitment, screening, hiring, and training of maintenance personnel to ensure the team is properly staffed, qualified, and prepared for operational demands.
  • Foster a safe work environment and promote a culture of safety awareness, including developing incentive programs, maintaining safety records, and achieving milestones outlined in the Plant’s Safety Manual.
  • Implement, manage, and track the plant’s preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs, analyzing equipment failures and providing trend data to the Plant Manager.
  • Serve as Project Manager for maintenance projects, coordinating activities, scheduling work, monitoring performance, and providing technical expertise to ensure tasks are completed safely, efficiently, and on time.
  • Develop and manage contracts, work scopes, budgets, and schedules for internal and external contractors, ensuring effective use of resources.
  • Provide task lists, schedules, and detailed work-order-level work packages for plant maintenance and contractor personnel during normal operations, planned outages, and forced outage situations, ensuring necessary parts, tooling, and services are available on time.
  • Review and track work orders in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for completeness, accuracy, historical data, and future planning.
  • Continuously assess maintenance plans, schedules, and procedures to identify improvements for quality, performance, and downtime reduction.
  • Identify and execute plant improvement projects aimed at enhancing performance, including capacity, heat rate, and availability, while reducing corrective maintenance activities.
  • Collaborate with other plant departments, operations staff, and the station’s NERC coordinator to enhance maintenance planning effectiveness, ensure regulatory compliance, and timely completion of tasks with proper documentation.
  • Ensure the plant’s maintenance manual, along with vendor maintenance and repair manuals, are kept up-to-date, and maintain accurate logs, records, and reports to establish maintenance frequency requirements.
  • Oversee warehouse and inventory management to ensure efficient storage, availability, and utilization of materials and parts.
  • Participate in the development, implementation, and maintenance of plant policies, objectives, and both short- and long-range planning, including programs to achieve established maintenance goals and targets.
  • Enhance the plant’s image as a good neighbor in the community and environment, encouraging involvement and participation of plant staff in community activities.
  • Complete special projects as assigned by the Plant Manager.

Benefits

  • This position offers an annual base salary ranging from $166,400 to $197,600 and includes eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
