POSITION SUMMARY The Maintenance Manager leads the maintenance and reliability program for the chemical manufacturing facility, ensuring the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of all production equipment, utilities, and infrastructure. This role manages the maintenance team, oversees preventive/predictive maintenance, supports Process Safety Management (PSM) where applicable, and partners with Operations, Engineering, Quality, and EHS to maximize equipment uptime, reliability, and overall plant performance. To be successful in the role, a Maintenance Manager needs to be committed to employee development, results-driven, safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a fast paced, process-driven environment. Located at our Florence, Kentucky site, this role reports to the Plant Manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering OR equivalent technical experience
  • At least 7 years of work experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, coatings, or regulated manufacturing with direct plant leadership
  • At least 3 years of maintenance leadership/supervision experience
  • Strong experience with CMMS systems (SAP PM, Maximo, Infor EAM, etc.).
  • Experience in PSM‑regulated processes.
  • Strong mechanical/electrical/instrumentation knowledge of rotating equipment, pumps, valves, piping, PLCs/DCS, and utilities.
  • Expert understanding of maintenance safety and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Skilled in root‑cause analysis, continuous improvement, and reliability engineering concepts.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, budgets, and multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with CMMS, Microsoft Office, and maintenance reporting tools.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and facilities maintenance activities to ensure safe and reliable equipment performance.
  • Develop and manage the preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/PdM) program, including vibration analysis, lubrication, thermography, alignment, and condition monitoring.
  • Ensure timely and effective completion of work orders, PM tasks, and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Drive equipment reliability improvements through root‑cause analysis, failure-mode investigations (FMEA), and engineering solutions.
  • Ensure maintenance work follows OSHA, NFPA, NEC, EPA, DOT, and company policies, including LOTO, confined space, hot work, line break, machine guarding, and electrical safety.
  • Support and lead elements of Process Safety Management (PSM) and Risk Management Plan (RMP) programs where applicable (e.g., MOC, PHA/HAZOP actions, mechanical integrity, PSSR).
  • Maintain documentation for critical equipment inspections, calibrations, relief device testing, and pressure vessel integrity programs.
  • Lead safety training for maintenance personnel and contractors; ensure work permits and safe work practices are followed.
  • Supervise maintenance supervisors, technicians, planners, and support staff; provide coaching, performance management, and career development.
  • Manage staffing levels, scheduling, overtime, and on‑call rotations.
  • Build a culture of accountability, technical excellence, and continuous improvement within the maintenance organization.
  • Oversee maintenance planning and scheduling functions to maximize labor efficiency and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure accurate and complete work orders, spare parts needs, failure codes, and maintenance documentation in the CMMS.
  • Coordinate with Operations on planned outages, shutdowns, and project prioritization.
  • Manage emergency maintenance response and troubleshooting across shifts.
  • Oversee equipment lifecycle management, including repair/replace strategies and asset health assessments.
  • Manage facility infrastructure: utilities, HVAC, piping, tanks, boilers, compressors, electrical systems, and instrumentation.
  • Partner with Engineering on capital projects, equipment upgrades, and installation/commissioning support.
  • Assist with equipment specifications, vendor selection, and contractor oversight.
  • Oversee maintenance inventory, spare parts optimization, kitting, and CMMS accuracy.
  • Ensure critical spares availability while controlling cost and carrying value.
  • Manage vendor/contractor relationships, service agreements, and performance metrics.
  • Evaluate contractors for safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Develop and manage maintenance budgets, controlling labor, materials, contracts, and capital expenses.
  • Track maintenance KPIs: MTBF, MTTR, uptime %, PM/PdM compliance, backlog health, work order aging, and cost per asset.
  • Lead Lean/Six Sigma, reliability-centered maintenance (RCM), and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Identify and implement ways to reduce downtime, improve energy efficiency, and extend equipment life.
