About The Position

Hood Industries, Inc. is a blend of wood manufacturing and distribution concerns that include plywood and lumber manufacturing plants, and twenty-four specialty wood product distribution operations, located in eighteen states serving the northeast, southeast and southwest United States. The primary purpose of the Maintenance Lead position is to lead a team of industrial millwrights to install, repair, modify, and maintain equipment to safely maximize uptime, quality, and productivity within the plywood facility in Beaumont, MS. This position would provide direct support to supervision and will set an example for co-workers striving for safety, excellence, and efficiency.

Requirements

  • 5+ years industrial maintenance experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the key responsibilities of this position.
  • Must successfully pass Hood Industries' Maintenance Certification Process.
  • Willing and able to work any shift, holidays, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Willing and able to work in a hot, cold, noisy, industrial environment.
  • Willing and able to perform tasks such as lifting, walking, climbing, stooping, standing, pushing, and/or pulling for up to 12 hours per day.

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in working in wood products.
  • Experience operating a forklift.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of reliability within the maintenance department by fostering a data-driven approach to decision making and encouraging a focus on proactive maintenance strategies.
  • Provide work directions to the maintenance team and provide quality operational repairs and preventative maintenance services.
  • Use all proper and necessary tools to safely repair and maintain production/manufacturing equipment.
  • Perform duties necessary to maintain upkeep of the plywood facility, including repairing/replacing belts, hoses, valves, sprockets, chains, motors, spindles, blades, bearings, and other machine parts in a production environment.
  • Monitor the use and inventories of spare parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment and initiate reordering when necessary.
  • Perform metal working (welding, cutting, fabricating) when necessary.
  • Repair/replace hydraulic units - oiling units and equipment (chains/sprockets).
  • Operate a forklift, mobile crane or other rolling stock on occasion.
  • Communicate regularly with co-workers and management to ensure good two-way communication concerning maintenance issues.
  • Review the operation of plant equipment and systems constantly, to minimize unplanned downtime, anticipate and solve problems in a timely manner, and to identify opportunities for improvement through root cause analysis.
  • Understand and remain aware of monthly, weekly, and daily numbers regarding efficiency, productivity, downtime, quality, and safety.
  • Implement projects that improve efficiency and/or reduce operating costs.
  • Set the example for safety, health and environmental policies and practices within the team.
  • May also have additional responsibilities related to the operations of the plant, as assigned.
