About The Position

Under general supervision, the Maintenance/Irrigation Technician III performs general and preventative maintenance, repairs, and installations on all Ringling College of Art and Design buildings, structures, equipment, and campus grounds. This position places special emphasis on the inspection, maintenance, and repair of campus irrigation systems, ensuring reliable operation, water conservation, and compliance with environmental standards. Work may also include carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems as assigned. The Maintenance/Irrigation Technician ensures that all duties are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable regulations. PLEASE NOTE: The anticipated earliest start date for this position will be January of 2026.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of irrigation system components, hydraulics, and electrical controls.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair leaks, clogs, and malfunctioning irrigation heads and valves.
  • Familiarity with smart irrigation controllers and water management practices.
  • General knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and HVAC systems.
  • Ability to perform general building maintenance tasks and interpret blueprints or schematics.
  • Ability to identify and solve complex maintenance problems.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Physical ability to lift 50 pounds and work in outdoor environments and varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work independently, follow detailed instructions, and respond effectively to on-call requests.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Five years of experience in trades such as grounds, irrigation, plumbing, carpentry, electrical, painting and general maintenance repairs.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Performs installation, troubleshooting, and repair of irrigation systems, including valves, controllers, backflow preventers, spray heads, drip lines, and underground piping.
  • Monitors irrigation system performance, identifies leaks or inefficiencies, and performs seasonal adjustments to optimize water use.
  • Conducts preventative maintenance on irrigation timers and pumps to ensure proper operation and coverage.
  • Coordinates with landscaping staff to schedule watering cycles and ensure proper turf and plant health.
  • Maintains accurate records of irrigation maintenance, repairs, and parts inventory.
  • Performs general building maintenance tasks including, but not limited to, plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, and HVAC preventive maintenance programs.
  • Installs, repairs, adjusts, and maintains all campus equipment in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Cleans equipment and work areas; maintains inventory of tools, supplies, and materials.
  • Adheres to College safety policies and procedures and reports unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Assists in moving materials, furniture, and equipment as required.
  • Attends classes and seminars to stay current with irrigation technology and maintenance practices.
  • May be required to work on weekends, holidays, or during emergencies (on-call responsibilities).
