About the position

The Maintenance internship position is involved in maintenance activities at Michael Foods, Inc. This position should also build capability and provide a pipeline of future talent for Michael Foods.

Responsibilities

  • Be part of the plant maintenance team; assist with maintenance plan execution and Maintenance equipment uptime improvements efforts.
  • Adherence to Safety and Environment policy.
  • Compliance to Quality and Food Safety requirements.
  • Tracking, Monitoring and Drive of Key Process Indicators (KPI's) results such as OEE, Maintenance PM Compliance & Mechanical Downtime.
  • Exposure to Key Leadership Competency at workplace including ensuring accountability, managing complexity, ambiguity & conflict, business insights & financial acumen, and effective collaboration & communication.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical power transmission equipment including gear boxes, mechanical drives, variable speed applications, and servo motors.
  • Work with hydraulic and pneumatic systems including cylinders, valves, manifolds, vacuum systems, air filtration and lubrication devices.
  • Exposure to basic electrical AC/DC troubleshooting.
  • Perform welding, sanitary welding, pipe fitting, soldering, rigging application and use of mechanical tools, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Read and decipher mechanical drawings, schematics, and piping diagrams.
  • Assume personal responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for everyone.
  • Adhere to Quality work practices, follow all GMP's, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained.
  • Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current or recent enrollment in a graduate or undergraduate degree related to mechanical, industrial, chemical or electrical engineering field.
  • Basic understanding of Root cause analysis process and continuous improvement.
  • Excellent verbal and oral communication skills and ability to influence others.
  • Eager to learn and challenge yourself; self-directed, detail oriented, reliable, and strong initiative.
  • Strong statistical skills including statistical process control (SPC), capability analysis, linear regressions, categorical data analysis and design of experiment (DOE).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; CMMS experience is a plus.
