About The Position

The Maintenance I/ Grounds Technician is responsible for performing routine maintenance, repair, and grounds keeping duties to ensure a safe, functional, and aesthetically maintained healthcare environment. This position supports the hospital’s mission by maintaining building systems, exterior grounds, and infrastructure in compliance with safety, regulatory, and infection control standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • OSHA or safety- related training preferred.
  • Obtain the Helpers Licenses within 12 months of hire: Plumbing, Electrical, Propane, and Fuel.
  • One year of maintenance, facilities, or grounds keeping experience preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of building maintenance systems and tools.
  • Ability to operate grounds keeping equipment (mowers, trimmers, snow removal equipment).
  • Ability to perform physical labor in various weather conditions.
  • Strong problem- solving skills and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on hospital equipment, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Assist skilled trades (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, and carpentry) as needed.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Respond to maintenance work orders in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and cars as required.
  • Maintain hospital grounds including mowing, trimming, edging, and landscaping.
  • Perform seasonal duties such as leaf removal, snow removal, sanding, and salting walkways and parking areas.
  • Maintain exterior cleanliness including parking lots, sidewalks, and entrances.
  • Assist in maintaining drainage systems and outdoor infrastructure.
  • Follow Cary Medical Center safety policies, procedures, and infection control practices.
  • Identify and report safety hazardous or maintenance concerns properly and timely.
  • Use personal protective equipment (PPE) appropriately.
  • Support Environment of Care standards and regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA, CMS, and Joint Commission).
  • Participate in emergency response activities including snow/ ice events, utility outages, and disaster response.
  • Be available for on-call rotation as required.
  • Comply with federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
