About The Position

JOB SUMMARY: Assists in the installation, maintenance, and repairs of machinery, tools, equipment, furnishing, fixtures, physical structures, and pipe and electrical systems. DESCRIPTION OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under supervision and review, performs simple tasks or assists in complex tasks, under general written or verbal instruction, requiring little initiative or ingenuity, as related to the following. Other work related duties may be assigned as necessitated by Company priorities. 1. Visually inspects and tests machinery, tools and equipment to assure proper working condition. 2. Listens for unusual sounds from machines or equipment to detect malfunction and discusses machine operation variations with appropriate personnel to diagnose problem or repair machine. 3. Dismantles defective machines, tools and equipment and installs new or repaired parts. 4. Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears, and other parts of machinery. 5. Assembles, installs, and maintains pipe systems, including facility plumbing, and hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, and repairs and replaces gauges, valves, pressure regulators, and related equipment. 6. Repairs and maintains physical structure and appearance of establishment. Includes cleaning, painting, repairing furniture or fixtures, moving or installing furniture or fixtures, disposal of trash, recyclables, hazardous material, etc. 7. Sets up and operates machine tools such as lathe, grinder, drill, milling machine, etc. to repair or fabricate machine parts, jigs and fixtures, and tools. 8. Moves or assists in moving, equipment, machines, etc. to different areas of the offices or plant. 9. Fabricates and repairs counters, benches, partitions, and other structures which may be wood, drywall, metal, glass or other construction material. 10. Licensed and capable of operating a motor vehicle. Skilled to drive and operate a forklift. 11. Works as an active team member by participating in problem solving, team building, and all other team activities to improve the processes, productivity, quality, etc. of the department and the company. Uses interpersonal skills as well as good written and verbal communications. Assists other Company personnel as required Equipment/Process Responsibilities - Performs duties where facility, property, tools, equipment, or machines may be damaged or man hours lost, through improper daily maintenance and attention to processing. Assists in the maintenance and repairs of machines, tools and equipment as well as physical plant and furnishings. Material or Product Responsibilities - Performs duties that require close attention to work and supporting documentation specifications, verbal instructions and other requirements. Responsibility for Work of Others - Accuracy of communication is mandatory to the successful maintenance and repair of machines, tools, equipment, furnishings and the physical plant. Must communicate to appropriate personnel any problems or concerns regarding maintenance or repair issues as it affects production schedules or the working environment. Safety Responsibilities - Good housekeeping, knowledge of all safety requirements related to machines, tools and equipment. Knowledge of safety requirements as related to the physical plant regarding such things as fire safety regulations, hazardous material handling procedures, building safety codes etc. Adherence to, and enforcement of Company safety rules is mandatory. Initiative and Ingenuity - Being under frequent supervision, nature of work requires little initiative to perform required tasks related to maintaining and repairing the physical plant, furnishings and all machines, tools and equipment. Uses ingenuity only in making suggestions for improving efficiency of basic tasks.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to read and write English of a level required in Company shop documents and computer software entry and processing requirements as well as technical, installation and maintenance instructions.
  • Must be capable of applying mathematical operations including using fractions and decimals, as required by essential job duties.
  • Must be able to operate machines, tools and equipment at a proficient level as required by essential job duties.
  • Generally equivalent to 6th grade level.
  • Requires 6 months work experience in a machine shop environment or equivalent skills and knowledge capable of performing the essential job functions which are necessary to fulfill job requirements.
  • Must read precision measuring instruments such as various gauges, meters, calipers and micrometers as well as blueprints, floorplans and other documentation similar or comparable to those used by the Company.
