About The Position

The Maintenance Helper performs a wide variety of maintenance related activities as an assistant to carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and painters. This position is essential for maintaining the facilities and ensuring a clean and safe environment for students and staff.

Requirements

• 8th grade education or its equivalent.
• 0 to 6 months of basic work experience.
• Basic knowledge of maintenance related activities.
• Must be physically capable of lifting in excess of 25 pounds on a continual basis.
• Ability to perform job functions in a standing position for a majority of the work day.
• Exposure to environmental extremes on a daily basis.
• Ability to perform climbing activities.

Responsibilities

• Performs maintenance and repair functions under the direction of the appropriate skilled personnel, including floor preparation (stripping, waxing, and buffing floors), cleaning windows/baseboards, and promptly removing graffiti from walls.
• Assists in the maintenance of equipment and inventories.
• Cleans the jobsite upon the completion of the activity.
• Provides courteous and prompt service to all internal and external customers including students, parents, and co-workers.
• Prioritizes and addresses requests and assignments in a professional manner to develop cooperative relationships and ensure confidentiality of student and employee records.
• Identifies opportunities and recommends methods to improve service, work processes, and financial performance.
• Assists in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives.
• Assists co-workers in the completion of tasks and assignments to ensure continuity of service.
• Orients new co-workers and actively supports teamwork throughout the school system.
• Performs other services as required.
