About The Position

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Maintenance Equipment Operator for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to perform a variety of routine manual or semi-skilled tasks involving the operation of automotive and related maintenance equipment including snowplows, tractors, trucks, busses, etc. Completes simple adjustments, repairs and maintenance. Completes routine logs and reports. Ensures task completion is compliant with Public Health, Department and Facility policies and procedures.

Requirements

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
  • Requires one (1) year’s experience in performing a variety of semiskilled mechanical and manual tasks in the maintenance and operation of automotive or related maintenance equipment.
  • Requires a valid class A or B commercial driver’s license (CDL) with appropriate endorsements, including passenger endorsement P and no automatic transmission only restriction E.
  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends, and holidays.
  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of routine manual or semi-skilled tasks involving the operation of automotive and related maintenance equipment including snowplows, tractors, trucks, busses, and other similar equipment.
  • Exercises safety precautions in the operation of equipment.
  • Maintains supplies for equipment maintenance and functioning such as cleaning supplies, safety items, etc.
  • Completes routine logs and reports relating to equipment and tasks such as maintenance log, daily vehicle checklist, appointment/schedule log etc.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
